Spread the Love receives 2008 YMCA Calgary Peace Medal

Story by: Thalia McRae

In our city, in each community, people are doing their part to make a difference. Some of them smile “hello” to their crossing guard. Some shovel their neighbour’s driveway or loan a cup of milk when needed. Others volunteer time to coach soccer or clean up the riverbank. Still others raise thousands and lead projects that build schools and provide water around the world.

All of these people are peacemakers, and their actions, no matter how big or small, build important connections and make us all stronger. This is the power of peace, the power of people.

Each year, YMCA Calgary recognizes eight individuals and groups who are using their power to make the world a better place. We hope you’ll reflect on the stories of the 2008 YMCA Peace Medal recipients and consider how you can use your power to make a difference.
