SPREAD THE LOVE CELEBRATES act NOW
University
of Calgary students volunteer with Spread the Love and make over a thousand
meals for the hungry during Calgary’s act NOW, a day of action that aligns
the values of compassion of the Dalai Lama with community engagement.
Inspired by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the citizens of Calgary perform thousands
of acts of charity, kindness and goodwill. Some will join group events while
some will act as individuals. All will make this city a better place to live.
“Youth thrive making a tangible difference in their communities, helping
those in need,” says 22-year-old Rob Aronson, Founder and President of
Spread the Love. “act NOW serves to champion civic volunteerism and Spread
the Love is excited to inspire students during this special day of compassion.”
Spread the Love provides meals to front line organizations such as The Mustard
Seed. Pat Nixon, CEO of The Mustard Seed says, "Spread the Love responds
to the essential and urgent needs of our homeless by providing nutritious sandwiches
for those who often go hungry. We are tremendously grateful for their initiative
and compassionate service to the less fortunate."
act NOW demonstrates the power of youth leadership converging with compassion. The day of action empowered change both across campus and the city at large. Photos of the event may be viewed here: http://brittanyesther.com/blog/spread-the-love-calgary-photography/
